Hi! My name is Harry Fotheringham. I am an ambitious final-year MEng Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering
student at the University of Leeds.
I completed a year-long placement as an
Applications Engineer, gaining valuable hands-on experience. Due to my
strong performance, I was invited to work part-time during my final two years,
further developing my technical and problem-solving skills whilst balancing my
studies. Driven by a passion for mechanical design and manufacturing, I am
eager to contribute my skills and ideas to the industry.

Undertook a year-long internship as an applications engineer at Driveworks Ltd, working on many exciting projects. To find out what I’ve been up to click here.
Undertook a week’s internship at TATA Steel in the Netherlands. I shadowed the development team and got some great hands-on experience. If you would like to know more about my time click here.
Lifeguarding at my local leisure center.
Awarded 4 A*’s in physics, biology, chemistry and maths. You can find out more about my time there on my education page.
Over summer I undertook a role as a leader of a sports camp and All Stars cricket at my local cricket club.
I attended The Hayfield School in Doncaster. To find out more please visit my education Page.

Since starting university, I’ve discovered a strong passion for coding. We’ve covered C++ and some basic MatLab programming. During my placement at DriveWorks, I taught myself HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript, while also learning XML. Additionally, I’ve built this website, using Netlify to host it directly from my GitHub repository.
3D printing has become a new hobby of mine ever since I got a 3D printer for my birthday last year. Naturally, this meant everyone received 3D-printed Christmas presents! I do all my modeling on SOLIDWORKS, which I learned at university, and I’m currently working towards my CSWE certification. Right now, I use the Voxelab Aquilla X2’s built-in printing software, but I’m also in the process of learning Cura. If you'd like to check out some of my prints, feel free to click here
I’m passionate about a variety of sports, including football, hockey, badminton, and cricket, with sport and fitness being a major part of my life. In April 2023, I completed the Adidas Manchester Marathon in memory of my grandad, who sadly passed away, and raised funds for those affected by MND. Cricket is my main sport, and I play at my local club, Bawtry with Everton CC. My favourite sport is probably badminton, which I try to play at least once a week. I also enjoy going shooting on Sundays with my grandad.
I'm really passionate about Physics, which was by far my favourite subject in college, alongside Maths. I enjoy reading books on both topics—I've read a couple of Stephen Hawking’s books and am currently diving into one about the mathematics in everyday life. I also like to listen to podcasts about things like particle colliders and emerging physics theories. I often find that running is the perfect time to listen, as I get completely immersed in the physics. At university, I live with Physicists, and sometimes I can’t resist sneaking into their lectures to see what they’re learning. I distinctly remember one about electron spin—though I’ll spare you the details! I also attended a lecture from an Oxford Physics professor on time crystals.
I really enjoy bouldering—the problem-solving, the physical challenge, and the feeling of progress with each session. It’s even more rewarding when shared with others, meeting new people, swapping tips, and working on projects together. There’s nothing like the satisfaction of finally sticking a tough move after countless attempts. Those small victories make all the effort truly worthwhile.
I’ve really gotten into chess lately and enjoy a good match. My rating is around 900, though it tends to fluctuate quite a bit. I try to play at least once a day, either with friends or online against other players. I’m eager to improve and learn more about chess theory.
